Generally, gold/silver jewellery, watches, perfumes, designer clothing, gadgets, vinyl records, and household items all sell quickly at a car boot sale. All new items sell well for between 25%-33% rrp. Remember just because it's old doesn't mean it's vintage and will sell for lots of money.

When to arrive – Some car boot 'experts' suggest that you should visit a car boot sale both at opening time, to view the best items before they are snapped up, and then again at the end, to offer cash that sellers can't refuse if they want to avoid taking everything home.

Harry Kind, a consumer expert at the consumer body Which?, says: “Selling unwanted items at a car boot sale can be a great way to make some extra cash and declutter your space but it's worth doing some research and having a plan if you want to make it truly worthwhile.”

Try to get to the car boot early to pick the best spot. Aim to be next to other attractive looking stalls as they will receive the most foot traffic and will achieve the most sales. Be sure to keep your prices competitive with theirs however as you don't want to lose potential customers!
